KBS open recruitment 18th class comedians Oh Ji-hyeon, Kim Jin-cheol and others exposed the hierarchical culture.
Recently on the YouTube channel "1010Works", Oh Ji-heon, Kim Jin-cheol, Chae Kyung-seon and Kim Billy (Kim Byung-heon) appeared and directly recounted the hierarchical culture in the broadcaster's comedians' room and various incidents that occurred about 20 years ago.
Oh Ji-heon recalled that the 18th class peers joined the broadcaster in their early 20s with little social experience, were pure and kind but lacked tact, and received much criticism and reproach from seniors.
Oh Ji-heon said of Kim Jin-cheol, who had even been detained during a junior gathering incident at the time, "Jin-cheol was a friend who, even in the detention center when he himself was in the worst situation, listened to and took care of other inmates' stories one by one," conveying the painful situation in which not-tough peers had to suffer greatly within a coercive system.
Anecdotes were also revealed in which the entire 18th class was misunderstood or wronged because of a specific peer's actions. Chae Kyung-seon drew a line regarding online circulation of a specific peer's alleged assault of a 19th class junior and gathering controversy, saying, "I saw related videos and clips circulating. At the time, it was something our peers had never heard of or known about."
She continued, "That peer didn't even come when we were gathered, and later didn't even go to work," and said, "When peers called to check on that person's whereabouts, a certain senior answered instead and angrily said to peers, 'I'm with him, why are you calling?'"
Kim Billy also recalled, "It was strange that whenever seniors ordered gatherings, a certain peer always directly informed the peers of the gathering," and said that the peer enjoyed special treatment under seniors' protection, such as not receiving significant reprimands even when at fault.
In particular, Kim Billy revealed that as the situation progressed from being someone gathered by seniors to being forced to order gatherings of juniors, he suffered extreme anxiety from the weekly repeated gatherings and ultimately left KBS to transfer to SBS, revealing the behind-the-scenes reason for his move to Lee Juck.
Meanwhile, KBS open recruitment 19th class comedian Jeong Cheol-gyu appeared on Mikigwangsu's YouTube channel and said he was subjected to continuous bullying by a senior comedian from the same agency who was gaining great popularity with "Blanka" at the time. He specifically mentioned being indiscriminately assaulted inside a car.
