Actress Gu Hye-sun revealed the reason she was willing to study alongside freshmen 20 years her junior.
On the 27th, the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property official YouTube channel released a video titled "A message to those who endlessly challenge themselves, from actor to painter, from film director to patent holder."
Gu Hye-sun, who completed a master's in engineering at the KAIST Graduate School of Science Journalism and is preparing for a doctoral program, said that expanding her activities from acting into various intellectual property fields "was not something I intended or planned from the start," and added, "I began my broadcasting activities during television's golden era, I wrote books when the publishing market was active, and I naturally expanded into the intellectual property (IP) realm in line with the times."
Regarding her studies, Gu Hye-sun said, "While working, I felt a great thirst from being unable to keep up with the rapid changes in the world and from lacking knowledge. I reentered undergraduate school at a late age and completed the four-year program, but my appetite for learning grew, and I attended school continuously for six years up through a master's in engineering at KAIST."
She continued, "I took classes with classmates who were 20 years younger, and friends who had repeated exams and worried that they were late themselves said they found great courage just by seeing me exist," adding, "Above all, I was greatly stimulated by the young students' open-mindedness. In the past, if you thought differently from others you could easily be criticized, but these days students recognize and respect that something is 'different' rather than 'wrong.' Rather than me helping my classmates, I actually learned much more from them."
