Singer Seong Hyun-woo, formerly of the group Limitless, firmly stated that there was absolutely no falsehood or Director in the video recounting his past trip to Jeju, in which he was threatened by a man wielding a weapon.
Seong Hyun-woo posted a video titled Hello, this is Seong Hyun-woo. I would like to talk about the Jeju story video on his YouTube channel on the 27th and rejected allegations by some that it was a staged act to attract views.
The incident was reexamined and drew intense attention, with the video Seong Hyun-woo uploaded in February receiving millions of views after recent disappearances and deaths occurred in Jeju. Seong Hyun-woo said he would not monetize this video and prayed for the souls of the deceased who sadly passed away.
In the video Seong Hyun-woo reiterated, The clear point is that the content contains only facts I personally experienced, without any Director or embellishment. The stories related to my experiences are not false tales made to get views.
While acknowledging he struggled with attention-grabbing titles and thumbnails, he added, I did not fabricate events I did not experience or exaggerate real events into lies. Seeing that my story serves as an important warning or raises awareness for some people, I will produce content more sincerely going forward.
Earlier, Seong Hyun-woo revealed that in February he recounted a true story from 2021 in which he intervened when a middle-aged man was abusing a foreign part-time worker at a restaurant in Jeju, and that man chased him outside the restaurant wielding a large kitchen knife–style weapon and threatened to kill him, after which he hid in a guesthouse and reported it to the police.
It was reported that the police investigating him advised, "There are many boatmen around Jeju's beaches, so it is common and it is better not to create disputes," which, coupled with recent controversy over the Jeju police's inadequate response, caused a major stir. When manipulation allegations surfaced, Seong Hyun-woo directly released the official case inquiry screen showing the case name of "special threat" and that the prosecutor's disposition was completed, clearing up the doubts.
