The Journey to Gyeongju topped the Korean film box office as soon as it opened.
According to the integrated movie ticket sales network, The Journey to Gyeongju took first place among Korean films at the box office on its opening day despite the onslaught of strong foreign films. It proved the momentum that had maintained an unshakable No. 1 pre-sale rate among Korean films, having already received unanimous praise from the media and critics before its release.
It set off a word-of-mouth craze by showing high figures on key actual viewer indicators, such as a 93% CGV golden egg index and a 9.63 Naver actual viewer rating.
Audience members who watched the film have praised it, saying, "a solid story that drives forward without losing momentum up to the ending," "an emotional roller coaster that makes you cry, laugh and get angry," and "a well-made work that is a must-see in theaters." In particular, praise continued for the flawless performances of Korea's leading actors, with comments such as "the acting feat is insane," and "it offers overwhelming immersion."
The Journey to Gyeongju depicts a family revenge drama of four mothers who, for the youngest daughter "Gyeongju," who did not return from a school trip, set out on a "deadly" journey after eight years of waiting. It stars Lee Jung-eun, Kong Hyojin, Park So-dam and Lee Yeon.
