The SBS 'Tails of Tales' (hereafter Kkokkomu) airing on the 27th will feature the episode "Shadow city - the 1971 Gwangju housing complex incident."
Nam Gyuri, Yoon Byung-hee and Lee Kwang-gi appear as listeners to discuss the first large-scale urban poor uprising to cry out for the right to livelihood since the establishment of the government.
The Gwangju housing complex incident was one of the projects promoted by Mayor Kim Hyun-ok, who had bulldozer-like determination to carry out Seoul redevelopment, including demolishing shantytowns across Seoul and relocating residents to the "Gwangju housing complex" during the Park Chung-hee administration.
The problem was relocating first and developing later. Citizens who arrived in a barren field without basic infrastructure such as hospitals and transportation, let alone water and electricity, had no place to work and no food, and had to fight disease, and at some point horrific rumors began to circulate. Among people, the cannibalism rumor that "a mother, starving, boiled and ate the baby she had given birth to" even spread.
Nam Gyuri strongly agreed, saying "things we could not even imagine were happening." In particular, Nam Gyuri recalled her past, saying, "I lived in a rooftop room, I lived in a semi-basement, and I also stayed in a gosiwon," and "when heavy rain came, the rooftop room would not drain. When I got home everything would be floating; it was that poor."
