The new Netflix series "Scandal" has released character stills showcasing the captivating acting synergy of actors Son Ye-jin, Ji Changwook and Nana.
The Netflix series "Scandal," which will be released on Sept. 18, depicts a daring and dangerous love wager between Jo's wife, a woman of the Joseon era whose talents are too great to be confined to being only a woman of Joseon, and Jo Won, Joseon's greatest ladies' man, and the story of the young widow Hee-yeon who becomes entangled in that wager.
In the released stills, the three create a secretive tension as each reads or writes letters. Son Ye-jin, who makes her return to historical dramas after 24 years as Jo's wife—the one who proposes the secret wager—draws attention with a shocking image of a noblewoman who, behind a prim appearance, has her hair down, wears an inner jeogori and holds a tobacco pipe. Son Ye-jin is expected to perfectly portray both the desire trapped by the era's limits and her strategist-like side.
Ji Changwook, who plays Jo Won, Joseon's greatest ladies' man, is a character who, having pursued only pleasure and amusement, plunges into a dangerous wager with Jo's wife. From a maddened look consumed by unattainable desire to a freewheeling charm, he presents a new side with layered emotional lines.
Also taking on her first historical drama, Nana plays Hee-yeon, a young widow who lost her husband before even holding a wedding. She is expected to delicately portray the inner life of a character who, having given up on her own life, becomes the target of Jo's wife and Jo Won's wager and faces a major change in her life.
Director Jeong Ji-woo, who directed the series, said, "All three characters have a great gap between the 'revealed self' and the 'hidden self,'" adding, "The psychological tension that arises in the process of being discovered or spying will be the highlight," raising expectations.
