Kang Junwoo of the Yook Joongwan Band said his son, born at 690 grams at 25 weeks of pregnancy, was discharged and thanked the medical staff and the public.
Kang said on the 26th via his Instagram that his son, Woojoo, was discharged on the 25th. Woojoo was born on Apr. 16 at 25 weeks of pregnancy, weighing 690 grams, and had been treated in the neonatal intensive care unit. He was discharged on the 131st day after birth at 4.16 kilograms.
Kang said, "Because his oxygen saturation sometimes dropped during feeding, we were discharged with only an oxygen saturation monitor," and expressed gratitude to those who had sent support.
Kang said, "With the comments and support, my spouse and I received a great deal of comfort," adding, "Many parents of 'early birds' (premature babies) shared what they had gone through first, and people who were born premature and are now adults also left comments saying, 'Don't worry.'"
He also thanked the neonatal intensive care unit staff at Samsung Medical Center, who treated his son for about four months, saying, "Not only Woojoo but we as a couple also received treatment and much comfort."
In particular, Kang expressed gratitude to the public while mentioning the health insurance and the state's medical expense support system.
According to the details Kang disclosed, Woojoo's total medical expenses over 131 days were about 216.94 million won. Of that, the National Health Insurance Service covered about 214.72 million won, and the amount the couple actually paid, including non-covered services, was 2.21 million won.
Kang said, "216 million won is an amount my spouse and I cannot afford," adding, "Thanks to the help of the public, we were able to pay. We will never forget this kindness for the rest of our lives."
