With the box office success of The Odyssey 2026 and a surge in scalped tickets for "Yongamac" (CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater), CGV finally took action.
On the 27th, CGV posted a notice titled "Temporary adjustment of purchasable number of tickets for Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX" on its official website.
CGV said, "As IMAX booking demand has recently surged, to provide more customers with booking opportunities and to operate a stable booking environment, we will temporarily adjust the number of purchasable tickets for Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX as follows," the company said.
According to the notice, CGV will allow purchases of up to 4 tickets per transaction and up to 4 tickets per day for IMAX screenings shown at the Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater starting today.
General screens and other special theaters that are not the Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater can be booked as before, separate from this notice, and the adjustment will be operated temporarily.
This measure comes after the recently released film The Odyssey 2026 is the only one among domestic IMAX theaters that can be viewed at the Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater in the original 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
Accordingly, screenings of The Odyssey 2026 at the CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater have been selling out day after day, and scalped tickets have been rampant, with prime seats trading for as much as 300,000 won.
Ultimately, CGV temporarily adjusted the number of tickets that can be booked per day for the IMAX theater and added, "CGV will continuously monitor bookings made through abnormal channels and the resale of tickets for profit, and will do its best to ensure more customers have access to stable booking opportunities."
