Rapper Swings expressed his feelings about taking on a new challenge as actor Moon ji-hoon.
On the 26th, a video titled "그래놓고 막상 가면 제일 신나는 사람…" was uploaded to the Stayfolio channel.
On that day's "My stay field report" content, rapper Swings appeared as a guest and had a candid conversation with singer Lee Sang Soon. Lee Sang Soon asked, "I watched the trailer for the movie 'Tazza 4'. Is this your first time acting in a film?", and Swings said, "It's my first time since I was born, and I'm grateful to have been cast."
Lee Sang Soon said in surprise, "Still, I heard it's a very significant role," and Swings promoted, "At first it was small, but the director increased my screen time. I'm grateful," adding, "It's called Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, but if I reveal too much I might get in trouble, so rather than making a fuss, I think it's the kind of thing that just cuts through the movie like a drill. It comes out at the end of September."
Asked, "How did you come to act?", he confessed, "When I lived in the U.S. as a child, I really liked the entertainers who were popular then, Bruce Willis and Jim Carrey. I watched a lot of movies with my father. I've always loved movies, but somehow I liked music and did music for 20 years. Over time my fans already knew my heart. About five, seven years ago, music became hard. It didn't work like before. In the past I'd write lyrics even when I drank and got drunk, but honestly that's less fun now. So I looked back and asked myself, 'What do I like?'"
He continued, "For seven years I really worked up a sweat; music is my identity, so giving it up or putting it down for a while was terrifying. But people around me, thankfully, pushed me with their elbows and said, 'Start quickly. Try auditions, go to an academy, learn.' So I plucked up the courage and started learning acting the year before last. It's so much fun. So I contact casting directors and directors. I have a certain level of recognition, and I use that as a cheat key. 'Hello, director,' 'Do you know Mr. Swings?' 'Yes. Could I take you to a meal?' Then we eat. I hustle hard selling myself and attend classes diligently. I love it," he said, showing satisfaction.
Lee Sang Soon asked, "Do you like taking on new challenges?", and Swings said, "Yes. I tend to try even if it might not work out. I prefer the embarrassment of failing to the regret of not doing something I love. What's wrong with failing? You learn and grow anyway," he said, expressing his conviction.
When asked about the difference between music and acting, he explained, "There's a very clear difference. When only doing music, rappers fight each other all the time. The reason is simple. If a rapper doesn't get along with someone, he can go home and record and diss that person, or not care and just do his own music. But you can't make a movie with just one person. Dozens of people deliberate about choosing someone like me, so actors are definitely more team players. There are directors who are like mothers, so you become humble. Nothing I did was solely mine. I'm just a small part that makes this clockwork function."
Asked whether working together suits his personality, he said, "At this age it seems to fit. If I'd been younger, I would have been a bit selfish and headstrong. So I'm happy I started acting late."
Meanwhile, Swings appears as the ruthless outlaw Abraham, with not an ounce of fear, in the movie Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, directed by Choi Guk-hee and provided/distributed by CJ ENM, provided/produced by C-JeS, which opens on the 23rd of next month. The final installment of the Tazza series, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, is a crime film in which Jang Tae-young (played by Byun Yo-Han), who thought he had the world through his online casino business, and his close friend of the same name Park Tae-young (played by Roh Jae Won), who took everything from him, meet again on the global gambling stage for a revenge showdown.
