Band Yook JoongwanBand member Kang Junwoo gave thanks as he shared the news that his premature son was discharged.
On the 26th, Kang Junwoo wrote on his social media, "Our son Wooju was discharged on Aug. 25. The baby, born on Apr. 16, 2026, at 25 weeks weighing 690g, was discharged healthy on Aug. 25 at 4.16kg, 131 days after birth. During feeding his oxygen saturation sometimes dropped, so he was discharged with only an oxygen saturation monitor." and posted a long message.
He added, "First, we sincerely thank everyone who cheered for us. Each comment and every message of support gave us great comfort and brought us to tears. Many parents of premature babies shared their earlier experiences, and even adults who were born premature left comments telling us not to worry. It was a great comfort," expressing his gratitude.
He also thanked the medical staff who cared for and treated Wooju for about four months, saying, "I don't know how to express our gratitude. They treated Wooju, but while we visited, my spouse and I also received treatment and much comfort from the medical staff," he added.
Kang Junwoo wrote, "They stayed attentive until the end about how to care for the baby after discharge, taught us and warned us, provided CPR training, showed us how to prepare formula, explained the baby's condition in detail to reassure us, and helped us leave the hospital feeling confident rather than fearful. Thank you," and he also mentioned that they comforted and reassured his wife, who had been diagnosed with oligohydramnios at another hospital.
Finally, Kang Junwoo said, "We sincerely thank the public," adding, "At first we admitted our child to a large hospital without much thought, but after some time we became realistically worried about the medical bills. When I searched NICU admission costs, some posts showed bills ranging from thousands to hundreds of millions of won. Fortunately, medical insurance covered much of the bill, and I learned that there is also a government policy that supports those medical costs," and listed his son Wooju's medical expenses. The total medical bill exceeded 216 million won, but after subtracting the National Health Insurance Service's share, the patient's total burden was about 2.2 million won.
Kang Junwoo said, "A total bill of 216 million won was an amount my spouse and I could not have borne. We were able to pay this large amount with the help of the public. We are truly grateful."
He mentioned the first day at home with his son Wooju and parenting, adding, "Spending a day with only the two of us and the baby, I realized how amazing all parents in the world truly are. They are truly the best."
