KBS 1TV's new daily drama 'Mom has gone crazy' unveiled a script reading scene that showcased the actors' solid acting chemistry, announcing the start of a tumultuous family drama.
Scheduled to premiere on Sept. 28, KBS 1TV's new daily drama "Mom has gone crazy" (directed by Sungjunhae, written by Na Seung-hyun) depicts the turbulent coming-of-age story of a family created by the children of a mother who lived her whole life for her family and a mother who lived her whole life for herself, and the two mothers who are entangled like enemies. Director Sungjunhae, who showed delicate directing in "Iron Family" and "Hurrah for my life," teamed up with writer Na Seung-hyun, who earned recognition for his writing through "Beans in my eyes" and "Crazy love."
The script reading held today (the 25th) featured main actors including Jeong Min-ah (as Kang Da-mi), Dong-ha (as Cha Seung-yoon), Kim Hee-jeong (as Jo Mi-mi), Kang Kyung-hun (as Jeon Jin-hee), Kim Young-ok (as Hwang Geum-soon), Yang Hee-kyung (as Choi Soon-deok), Lee Han-wi (as Kang Hak-seong), Nam Sung-jin (as Cha In-seong), Jo Mi-ryeong (as Park Ji-young), Kang Eun Tak (as Kang Kang-nam), Kong Jeong-hwan (as Joo Kyung-ho), Ahn Yeon-hong (as Jo Ri-ja), as well as Kim Jong-hoon (as Kang Dae-chi), Kim Ga-ran (as Kim Mi-seon), Bae Ji-wan (as Cha Do-yoon), Choi Yu-bin (as Cha Se-na), Kim Na-eun (as Kang Ye-ri), and Kim Rae-on (as Kang Su-a).
From the first meeting, the actors immersed themselves deeply in their characters and delivered passionate performances that resembled actual filming. Amid tense conflicts between characters and lively chemistry, the actors' vivid performances added to the anticipation for the production.
Jeong Min-ah transformed into Kang Da-mi, personal assistant to Cha Seung-yoon, the head designer of Hwanggeum Apparel, and radiated a bold charm. She conveyed Kang Da-mi's bright and spirited side as she confidently pursues her dreams, as well as her delicate feelings of disappointment and sense of responsibility toward her family, giving the character three-dimensionality. Jeong Min-ah expressed her affection for Kang Da-mi, saying, "On the outside she is bright and spirited, but inside she is a very delicate and lovable character."
Dong-ha took on the role of Cha Seung-yoon, the eldest grandson of the Hwang family and the head designer, showcasing a cold, flawless charisma. He richly conveyed a wide emotional range, from the obsession with uncovering the truth behind his parents' deaths to a prickly side that values clothes more than people after many years living abroad. Dong-ha shared his thoughts, saying, "It was an honor to be able to voice rehearsed lines in front of seniors I admired and liked since childhood."
Kim Hee-jeong and Kang Kyung-hun add depth to the drama as two mothers with different ways of life. Kim Hee-jeong plays Jo Mi-mi, who devotes herself to her family and endures numerous hardships, showing both toughness and warmth. The transformation of Jo Mi-mi, a "candy-type mother" who finds her own way amid repeated incidents, draws attention to how Kim Hee-jeong's deep acting will carry the story. Kim Hee-jeong said, "This is a drama that shows a mother's coming of age. It is a great honor to participate in a drama where I can work with older actors."
Kang Kyung-hun plays Jeon Jin-hee, who has both a wealthy family and a devoted husband. While she appears elegant and composed on the outside, she harbors hidden desires, and Kang Kyung-hun plans to delicately portray the character's dual nature. She expressed her resolve, saying, "I am very honored to be able to work together for a long time, and I will approach filming with great joy."
Kim Young-ok expressed Hwang Geum-soon's strong determination as she relentlessly investigates her eldest son's death and her affectionate feelings toward her grandson, anchoring the drama. Yang Hee-kyung, playing Choi Soon-deok, supports her daughter-in-law Jo Mi-mi more than anyone and even hands over the samgyetang restaurant she operated, showing the reliable mother-in-law who helps lead the household.
Lee Han-wi, Nam Sung-jin, Jo Mi-ryeong, Kang Eun Tak, Kong Jeong-hwan, and Ahn Yeon-hong also firmly supported the narrative with stable performances that completely embodied their characters. The combination of seasoned actors with distinct personalities raised expectations for the diverse family stories unique to "Mom has gone crazy."
In this way, "Mom has gone crazy" will portray how characters entwined under the name of family face their own wounds and conflicts and overcome them, conveying the true meaning of family and stories of growth.
