Guitarist Choi Gu-hee, an original member of the band Deulgukhwa, was reported late to have died on the 16th. He was 67.
A friend of Choi Gu-hee earlier posted on social media on the 23rd, "Guitarist Choi Gu-hee passed away on the 16th, and on the 20th he was cremated at Yangji Park in Jeju and placed in a columbarium, so I went to comfort Gu-hee's soul and spirit," the friend said.
Also, according to singer Yang Jeong-won, who knew the late man in life, the late Choi Gu-hee died while battling stomach cancer. He underwent surgery, but the cancer was reported to have metastasized to other areas.
Deulgukhwa's bassist Choi Sungwon also posted on his social media, "Gu-hee went home after his picnic… Rest well and play the guitar there too in a wonderful new life," leaving a message of mourning.
The late Choi Gu-hee was one of the original members of Deulgukhwa and had worked with Shin Jung-hyeon and Music Power, and the groups Faith Hope Love. He joined Deulgukhwa as an original member and participated in the first and second albums, becoming loved for his characteristically deep playing. Afterwards he was active in bands such as Weirdos and Sinchon Blues, and in 1989 he released a solo album.
