Actor Jeon Do-yeon shared a cheerful remark about teaming up again as a married couple with Sul Kyung-gu.
On the 25th in the morning at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Seoul, a press conference was held for the Netflix film "Possible Love".
The Netflix film "Possible Love" (director Lee Chang-dong, screenplay Lee Chang-dong·Oh Jeong-mi, produced by Pine House Film Co., Anonymous Content, Now Film Co., provided by Netflix, distributed by NEW) tells the story of a dismissed worker and his wife and a documentary director and her husband, two couples who meet to produce a documentary and confront different lives and hidden desires.
"Possible Love" is Lee Chang-dong's first new work in eight years, the director of "Green Fish," "Peppermint Candy," "Oasis," "Miryang," "Poetry" and "Burning," and it early drew attention as a meeting of actors who truly represent Korea, including Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeojeong. It was officially invited to the competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the special presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival and the main slate of the 64th New York Film Festival, receiving recognition for its artistic merit. In addition, Lee Chang-dong received the TIFF Ebert Director Award at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival Tribute Awards, becoming the first Korean director to receive the honor.
Sul Kyung-gu played Hoseok, a dismissed worker; Jeon Do-yeon played Hoseok's wife Miok; Cho Yeojeong played documentary director Yeji; and Zo In-sung played Yeji's husband Sang-woo (Zo In-sung), each giving passionate performances. As documentary director Yeji approaches the Hoseok-Miok couple to film a documentary about dismissed and unemployed workers, the lives of the four take an unexpected turn.
Jeon Do-yeon said, "The reason I appeared in this work was that the most attractive thing was director Lee Chang-dong. When the director proposed it and I decided to do it, I quickly asked for the script," and added, "I asked for the script right after I said I would do it because I was worried the role might not go to me or something. And when I closed the script, the aftertaste was so strong that I thought, 'As expected, this is director Lee Chang-dong.'"
Jeon Do-yeon and Sul Kyung-gu have worked together in as many as four films — "I wish I had a wife," "Wish," "Birthday" and "Possible Love" — and regarding this, Jeon Do-yeon said, "Working with Sul Kyung-gu again as a married couple made me think I might want to meet a new actor," prompting laughter. She added, "But we have already worked together for a long time and have seen each other for a long time, so there was a bit more trust and confidence as Hoseok and Miok, so I think the chemistry that felt like a real married couple came out," boasting an exceptional rapport.
She was reunited with director Lee Chang-dong 20 years after "Miryang," saying with a smile, "I didn't realize so much time had passed. It feels like we met again just the other day."
Meanwhile, "Possible Love" opens in theaters on Sept. 23 and will be released to more than 190 countries worldwide via Netflix on Nov. 6.
