Actor Kim Jeong-hwa shared how difficult she felt after her husband Yu Eun-seong was diagnosed with brain cancer.

That day Lee Sung-mi asked about the situation when Yu Eun-seong was diagnosed with brain cancer, saying, "Actually, the wife relies on the husband and the husband relies on the wife, but when they first heard 'this is the illness,' Jeong-hwa probably cried more? The husband would have held back his tears," and Kim Jeong-hwa revealed, "That's right. I cried more. I had that thought. Because I lost my mother to cancer, cancer was very big to me," she said.
Lee Sung-mi empathized, saying, "When you hear cancer, you think it immediately leads to death," and Kim Jeong-hwa said, "It was like that, but suddenly hearing brain tumor, brain cancer. They said it's so serious (you could die). At first I thought, 'God, why do all the people I love have to get cancer,' 'Did I do something wrong?' I thought that. And then I realized, 'I relied on my husband too much.' I didn't know that until then," she said.
She recalled, "I think I had thought of my mother that way even before marriage. My mother's my faith mentor, my life mentor, a very important person I had to follow. But after marrying my husband and hearing about the brain tumor, I realized, 'I did it again. I loved my husband more than God.' So I cried a lot. I kept asking, 'How should I live?' The kids were still young. At that time the kids were in first and third grade. I had also started a business. I thought, 'Then how do I live?'"
She continued, "After marriage I wasn't very active as an actress, and if my husband wasn't here I wasn't confident I could raise two sons alone. My husband took great care of the children, played with the boys, and did things I couldn't do. That part was very important, and thinking that if he wasn't here that role would suddenly be gone felt so overwhelming. I really cried a lot. I asked, 'What should I do,'" she said.
Yu Eun-seong said, "I thought this was my fault because she cried every day, so I once called her. I said in the living room, 'Sit here a moment. Why do you cry every day? I'm actually trying to be neater about this.' I put everything to sleep and cried. I cried loudly. My wife and kids probably didn't know at all. Every night I went out to the living room with a cushion so they wouldn't hear and cried loudly; that was a bit scary. It was scary and frightening because it was something I'd never experienced. But in front of the kids and my wife I was always cheerful, while (Kim Jeong-hwa) cried every day," he said.
He confessed, "When I asked, 'Why are you crying?' she said she thought it was her fault. So I said, 'This isn't Jeong-hwa's fault, it's mine. I ate a lot of unhealthy things, I was under a lot of stress and overworked, so it's my fault. I won't think God gave me this disease. Now stop crying.' And at that time it hadn't been decided whether to have surgery or not. So I said, 'You can cry after the conclusion is reached; why borrow sorrow and pain in advance and cry now? Let's cry after the conclusion,'" he said.
But Kim Jeong-hwa said, "That period really felt like hell. I didn't know what would happen until the conclusion came," and Lee Sung-mi empathized, "If there's a conclusion you can deal with it, but if there isn't one your thoughts keep going to the worse of the two choices." Yu Eun-seong revealed, "I never talked about it before, but I even looked into organ donation. I looked into what I would need to do if I donated organs, all of that, so how would (Kim Jeong-hwa) feel?" which surprised listeners.
However, they said this hardship brought them closer. Lee Sung-mi asked, "And you're doing a coffee business now, right? Why did you start that? I don't remember if you talked about that. I asked, 'Why are you trying to expand it so much?' and he said if he were to die he wanted his wife not to have trouble making a living, so he wanted it to expand quickly. I said, 'Why think that? It's enough that you're here.' But he was investing a lot of himself in that business," she asked with curiosity.
In response, Yu Eun-seong said, "I don't have that thought now. Our company received investment two years ago and turned a profit last year. If the company was started to help Kenya, Africa, then the company should go toward that purpose.
