Hollywood top star Bruce Willis (71)'s eldest daughter Rumer Willis (38) candidly revealed that she underwent genetic testing as a preventive measure amid her father's battle with dementia.
On the 24th (local time), according to foreign media reports including the British Daily Mail, Rumer Willis collaborated with the healthcare corporations 'Function' to take the 'ApoE' genetic test that measures the risk of developing Alzheimer's and dementia. This is interpreted as a step to proactively manage her health after her father Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
In an interview with People, Rumer Willis said, the results can sometimes be frightening, but our family has various genetic factors including not only dementia but also breast cancer. But knowledge is power. If I know in advance which diseases I am susceptible to, I can begin proactive efforts such as reducing inflammation in the body or taking care of heart health. The test results were reported to show an "average level" of risk.
In particular, Rumer Willis expressed her deep longing for her father on social media, eliciting sympathy. She said, "I really miss my dad. I miss the dad he used to be so much," adding, "Some days are unbearably hard, but I try to focus on the moments with the dad he is now. Accepting two emotions at once is how you become stronger," and she welled up.
Earlier, Bruce Willis's family announced that after he was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, his condition worsened to frontotemporal dementia in 2023.
