The daughter of former basketball player Woo Ji-won, Woo Seo-yoon, was crowned Miss Korea, and varied reactions have poured in over her face, which looks different from the past.
Woo Seo-yoon won the honor of "jin" at the 70th Miss Korea pageant held on the 22nd at COEX Auditorium in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Earlier, she was selected as "seon" at the 2026 70th Miss Seoul·Gyeonggi·Incheon selection in May and had previously made an impression by also winning the "sponsor award" chosen by an official sponsor. After earning the opportunity to advance to the finals, she rose to the final "jin" position in the main competition, drawing attention.
Woo Seo-yoon, who previously appeared as a "meginyuh" on tvN STORY and E Channel's When Ourkids Fallinlove, attracted attention with model-like tall height inherited from the 191cm Woo Ji-won and her urbane beauty.
However, after news of her being crowned Miss Korea arrived, debate ensued as her past appearance was revealed. When she was a teenager in 2018, Woo Seo-yoon appeared with Woo Ji-won on tvN's Escape the Nest 3, revealing father-daughter daily life. The issue was that her appearance shown on that broadcast at the time and Woo Seo-yoon's current looks were significantly different.
Some netizens raised suspicions of plastic surgery. Claims emerged that Woo Seo-yoon's heightened beauty was the result of plastic surgery. This went further to questions of fairness. While plastic surgery is an individual's freedom, reactions followed that a person who has had plastic surgery winning an award runs counter to the very purpose of beauty pageants.
On the other hand, some say that Woo Seo-yoon did not have plastic surgery but simply lost weight. There is a saying that "diet is the best cosmetic surgery," and opinions note that it is perfectly natural for appearance to change from teenage puberty to adulthood. Because eight years have actually passed since her appearance on Escape the Nest 3, they argue that one should not make hasty judgments by comparing only old images.
Meanwhile, regarding becoming Miss Korea jin, Woo Seo-yoon said, "I did not expect it at all," and added, "I think I was able to complete a wonderful stage through painstaking, meticulous effort. It was a stage created by the hard work and effort of so many people."
