Star chef Sam Kim recounted the intense life he led while studying in the United States.
On the 24th, tvN You Quiz on the Block's official channel uploaded a pre-release video along with the caption "The time I slept with a knife tied to my hand while studying in the U.S."
That day, MC Yu Jae-seok said, "(When you studied in the U.S.) how serious was it? Is this for real? That you slept with a knife tied to your hand?" and was surprised. In response, Sam Kim said, "Yes. I had a lot of pride in my knife skills."
Yu Jae-seok expressed concern, saying, "What if you get hurt while sleeping?" and Sam Kim explained the reason, saying, "It's not a sharp exposed blade; there's a cover on all four sides. If you tie it well, it will never come loose," and "grip is really important for a knife."
In response, Yu Jae-seok asked, "Is it to maintain the grip?" and Sam Kim said, "Yes. This is really important." He continued, "Because I was extremely competitive. I thought that if I did this well I wouldn't lose my place, and because I'm an Asian I had the constant thought that I had to grow quickly to move up higher," recounting the situation at the time.
He added, "Beyond sleeping with the knife tied to my hand, if there was a menu I would buy the exact same ingredients on my days off and keep practicing on those days. Because I never knew when this opportunity would come to me. So I always bought them, and if there were vegetables I couldn't handle I bought them and practiced," which drew admiration.
