Cha Jae-i revealed her brainy side.
On the 24th, tvN STORY's "Table Tales" aired, featuring Cha Hwa-yeon and Cha Jae-i.
Pak Se-ri told Cha Jae-i, "I heard you are the brain. You got a perfect score on SAT math," and Lee Young-ja added, "I heard she speaks four languages." Cha Jae-i answered candidly, "I'm not particularly smart; I tend to be a person who sits still and I like titles. Certifications, grades, and so on. I sit for long periods. While acting, the only time I get to wear titles is through acting, right? I studied during my breaks," she said.
Cha Jae-i said, "Originally I came from the 8 school district. Compared with my friends, I didn't study much. I struggled in my own way, but my brain wasn't that good. I couldn't keep up with the kids," she said.
Cha Hwa-yeon discussed education methods, saying, "There were mothers around me whose children ranked first and second in the entire school. Their actions were things I couldn't follow. That method suited those mothers, but it wasn't right for my child. I didn't want to raise her that way." She added, "My motto when raising kids is, 'Do what you like most.' If she doesn't want to go to hagwon, I tell her not to go."
Cha Jae-i said, "I was too permissive. Because my mother stayed still by herself, if I don't do this, my mind becomes very anxious. If I don't do it myself, I get very anxious. Why doesn't my mother tell me to do it? I ended up finding it and doing it myself." Cha Hwa-yeon, as if realizing it now, said honestly, "So that's why you asked me to send you to hagwon. You were anxious. I didn't know."
Cha Jae-i recalled her high school entrance. She laughed and said, "I prepared for the foreign language high school but failed. In the end, I was admitted to the New York University acting program." Cha Hwa-yeon mentioned when her daughter declared she would become an actress, "I cried and tried to stop her because I know it's a difficult path. She said, 'If I fail NYU's early decision, I'll go to another school in another major.' She applied early decision and was accepted despite a 30,000 to 1 ratio. My feelings were mixed. I was happy and upset," referring to that moment. Cha Hwa-yeon added, "Because she had already been accepted to the theater program… since I told her to go if she was accepted, I couldn't stop her."
Cha Jae-i even graduated early from New York University. She said, "It was difficult. This is painful to say, but my mother appeared in three to four dramas at a time. Tuition was expensive." Cha Hwa-yeon said, "I took any role from bit parts to corpses. New York University tuition was extremely expensive," and said she had no choice but to work hard. Cha Jae-i revealed that one year of tuition was 80 million won and explained that she worked toward early graduation for Cha Hwa-yeon.
