Group Shinhwa member Kim Dong Wan once again voiced his position on the controversy over Park Wi's CCTV disclosure.
On the 23rd, Kim Dong Wan posted a lengthy message on his social media, saying, "I am adding this because the intent of my previous post seems to have been conveyed differently."
Earlier, Kim Dong Wan commented on the controversy related to Park Wi's KTX video, saying, "This is also his first time dealing with a disability. From the perspective of someone with a disability, he probably had to consider everything," and left a post saying, "I do not know all the details of this matter. However, I think the time it takes for an ordinary person to appear in the news has become too short."
After criticism poured in toward both Park Wi and himself, Kim Dong Wan posted an explanatory message. He emphasized, "I have no personal relationship or vested interest with Mr. Park Wi. I do not take lightly the situation in which a community service worker who made an unintentional mistake and apologized on site is exposed to criticism."
He added, "The method of releasing the video can be criticized. However, I was concerned by recent frequent instances where that criticism spreads to the point of dragging up unverified past matters and condemning a person entirely," and explained, "The term 'ordinary person' did not refer to the size of their influence but meant someone who is in a position to be reported immediately without a filtering process."
Finally, Kim Dong Wan said, "Criticizing wrongdoing and collectively humiliating a person are different. My point was that no one should become the target of that. This is my fault, and since the posts pointing it out remain attached, I will leave the original text as is."
Meanwhile, on the 21st, Park Wi released a video titled "The reason for releasing CCTV footage" on his YouTube channel. The video contained footage of Park Wi falling after his wheelchair wheel got caught on the foot of a community service worker who was on a ramp while Park Wi was boarding or disembarking the KTX.
Netizens flooded comments pointing out that the CCTV was disclosed despite the accident having occurred while helping, and that it was rash to release the footage even though the community service worker had politely apologized at the time.
As the controversy intensified, Park Wi issued an apology, saying, "My method of conveying this was clumsy and my thinking was short. I apologize to everyone who worked hard on site."
