On the 23rd, the 70th Miss Korea selection contest was held at the COEX Auditorium in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The event was hosted by broadcaster and former announcer Oh Sang-jin and Park Hee-seon, who was the 68th Miss Korea Seon (善).
Miss Daegu, Miss Busan·Ulsan, Miss Gyeongnam, Miss Daejeon·Sejong·Chungcheong, Miss Seoul·Gyeonggi·Incheon, Miss Gyeongbuk, Miss Gangwon, Miss Jeolla·Gwangju·Jeju — through eight regional contests nationwide, 26 finalists were selected, and one reason the contest attracted attention this year was that second-generation celebrities participated.
The protagonists were Woo Ji-won's daughter Woo Seo-yoon and Jeon Hee-chul's daughter Jeon Su-wan, and the two became known through the recently concluded variety show "When Ourkids Fallinlove 2" and others. Woo Seo-yoon advanced to the finals as Seon from Seoul·Gyeonggi·Incheon, and Jeon Su-wan advanced as Mi (美) from Seoul·Gyeonggi·Incheon; they competed for the Miss Korea crown in a friendly competition.
The honor of the Jin crown went to Woo Seo-yoon. Wearing a commemorative crown that reflects Korean beauty and Miss Korea's 70-year history, Woo Seo-yoon received high marks for having shown talent and charm early and for being recognized for her star quality.
Woo Seo-yoon said, "Honestly, I did not expect this at all. My fellow 70th classmates worked so hard and I am so happy. Thank you to my family and friends for supporting and cheering for me. I think this was a stage made possible by the hard work and effort of so many people."
Although Woo Seo-yoon smiled wearing the honored Jin crown, Jeon Su-wan swallowed her disappointment after failing to place. Seon was Oh Su-min, Mi (美) went to Lee Min-sol, Ye (藝) went to Noh Hyang, and Jae (才) went to Lee So-min. In the special awards category, the friendship award, voted by the contestants themselves, went to Lee So-min, and the popularity award, chosen by the public, went to Seo Yeo-eun, leaving Jeon Su-wan's name ultimately uncalled.
Following in the footsteps of Miss Korea Jin seniors such as Kim Sung-ryoung, Oh Hyunkyung and Lee Ha-nee, Woo Seo-yoon will walk a path to promote a new Korean beauty.
