Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield acknowledged that he has a secret Instagram account.
In an interview with U.S. outlet Variety published on the 22nd (local time), Andrew Garfield discussed social media.
Saying he had a private SNS account, he said, "I'm addicted to social media like everyone else. It's awful every time I look at my phone's screen time notification. It feels like I poured that countless time into nowhere meaningful," attracting attention.
He added, "It really angers me that we don't control these impulses as much as we should, and this was designed that way in the first place. It's pretty creepy when you look into it."
When asked what content on social media he gets lost in for hours, Andrew Garfield replied that it was about "unique pottery" and "various Japanese craft artisans."
Social media and technology are also central elements of Andrew Garfield's new film The Magic Faraway Tree. He and Claire Foy play Tim and Polly, respectively. They are a couple who, after organizing life in London with children who are heavily dependent on digital devices, move to a rural farm.
In the film, Tim and Polly constantly try to keep the children away from smartphones and tablets. Asked whether he personally does a smartphone detox, Garfield emphasized, "We've all had the impulse to smash our phones or throw them into the woods or the sea."
He said, "We know smartphones are eating away at our lives in some way. I'm no better than anyone else. Someone told me that leaving your phone in another room would be a big help for a detox, and I realized that's true. The moment the smartphone is in the same room, it's basically over."
