Busan heated up with a comedy fever.
The 14th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF) (hereinafter "Bukope") continued waves of laughter with distinctive performances on the second day after its opening.
On the 22nd, high-quality comedy stages such as Kim Hak-rae·Lee Yong-sik's wild talk show, "Jeon Yu-seong without Jeon Yu-seong show," "Gag Concert," and the overseas performance team "Double (Double)" delivered thrilling fun.
The "Kim Hak-rae·Lee Yong-sik wild talk show" retraced the footsteps of the late Ku Bong-seo, who worked to bring laughter to the public, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of his birth. Beginning with a tribute video chronicling the late Ku Bong-seo's life, the performance brought deep emotion and resonance, and Kim Hak-rae and Lee Yong-sik skillfully recounted past anecdotes with Ku Bong-seo, filling the venue with nonstop back-and-forth banter and laughter.
In particular, the atmosphere grew more ripe when Bukope executive chairperson Kim Jun-Ho and director Kim Dae-hee, along with the two sons of the late Ku Bong-seo, made a surprise visit. The golden age of Korean comedy as told by Kim Hak-rae and Lee Yong-sik, and the passion of the late Ku Bong-seo who led it, left a deep impression.
The "Jeon Yu-seong without Jeon Yu-seong show," honoring another comedy legend, the late Jeon Yu-seong, revived his comedic spirit on stage. First to take the stage, Lee Hong-ryul recalled the late performer's trailblazing path in Korean comedy by highlighting Jeon Yu-seong's uniquely inventive ideas and original comedic sense, and Joltan Lee Jae-hyung, Han Hyun-min, and Jung Jin-wook completed a rich stage with a special collaboration with Jeon Yu-seong's son-in-law Kim Jang-seop.
Shin Bong-Sun transformed into "Ms. Cha of nouveau riche finance" and delivered laughter with crisp Busan dialect and witty skits, and she also invited Chairperson Kim Jun-Ho and Director Kim Dae-hee from the audience onto the stage, creating unexpected fun.
Especially, Kim Shin-young, who played the character "second aunt Kim Dabi," a character Jeon Yu-seong cherished during his life, closed the performance with lively songs and cheerful performances such as "Jura Jura," "Ppunigo," "Jagalchi ajima," and "Now." Marking the first first anniversary since Jeon Yu-seong's passing, the comedy he loved his whole life was revived through the stages of his juniors.
Gag Concert's popular segments also met the audience at the venue. With segments such as "Mirror man and woman," "All song contest," "Angry people," "How about Defconn," and "Simgok police station," audience members followed catchphrases or sang loudly with the performers, becoming one with the stage and fully enjoying the festival.
In addition, at the magic show "Double (Double)," where world-class magicians joined forces, world magic champion Nobert Ferre, European magic champion Charlie Mag, and comedy magician Kim Min-hyung took the stage to present a unique performance combining magic and comedy.
