'Honorary Briton' Baek Jin-kyung recalled a dark chapter when she obsessed over her appearance and tried extreme dieting.
On the 23rd, a video titled "Honorary Briton unpublished past photos Exhuma" was uploaded to the "Honorary Briton" channel.
In the video, Baek Jin-kyung took out her own embarrassing episodes from her 20s and spent time reviewing her aesthetic pursuits. She explained, "I lived in Korea, went to the U.S., returned to Korea, and then went to the U.K. again. As I went back and forth between countries, my aesthetic pursuits changed and I went through various tastes. My looks changed. So now I'm going to look at photos from when I was 20, from college onward, one by one, release my embarrassment together, click my tongue a bit and have that kind of time."
First, pulling out the fresh look from her freshman year, Baek Jin-kyung said, "This photo is from when I was 20. I had just entered college and bleached my hair. At the time I didn't have money to go to a salon, so I bleached it at home. So when the color fades, it comes out orange like that. I probably had just started wearing makeup. So all I could do was extend the tail of my eyes. My features are similar. (With editing) I cropped it a lot. Looking at the features of my department photos, they're always taken from an angle above. So here (the jaw) looks very slim. Look how white my skin is. I was undergoing orthodontic treatment then. I wore circle lenses that made my eyes look like a dog's and worked part-time. Compared to now, my aesthetic completely changed," she explained.
Looking at another photo taken as a freshman, Baek Jin-kyung recalled, "When I entered the film department as a first-year student, I wasn't used to coming to Seoul. I was a friend who holed up in Suwon and only studied. I went to college and, since it was the film department, the kids really knew how to dress up. Pretty. The girls came and they were all well made up and dressed nicely and so pretty. The acting kids were kind of pretty too, with small faces. I was shocked at the freshman welcome party. So I thought this is not the time for me. I developed an obsession with my appearance and absolutely starved myself."
She said, "In the summer break of my first year I just starved. I hardly exercised and when I starved, the weight just dropped rapidly. But I must have lost it unhealthily. I lost about 15kg to 20kg. So my jaw here became completely slim. The face looked like this. But now there are only face photos, right? My face is big. So even if the jaw gets slim, the bone structure stays the same, so when my shoulders lost weight my head just looked like it floated around," she said candidly, bringing amusement.
Meanwhile, 'Honorary Briton' Baek Jin-kyung is a YouTuber active in the U.K.; she married British actor Rohan Ned in 2023 and recently announced her pregnancy. The second child is a daughter, due to be born this Dec.
