Actor Han Woo-yeol made a strong impression on audiences with a heavy charisma and distinct personality in director Na Hong-jin's film HOPE.
HOPE is a movie about events that unfold when villagers at Hopo Port in the Demilitarized Zone confront a mysterious being presumed to be an alien. In the film, Han Woo-yeol gave a passionate performance as Wan-seop, a member of the hunter group led by Seong-gi (Zo In-sung).
In the process of pursuing the mysterious being, Han Woo-yeol served as the action leader who moves first under Seong-gi's orders, maximizing the film's tension. Not only did he convey a heavy presence while carrying a shotgun, he completed Wan-seop's rough demeanor and tough visuals in a crisis with intense looks.
Especially, the hunter group led by Zo In-sung provided another layer of fun in the film as the so-called Hopo Port "Hortis," with their distinctive free-spiritedness and varied personalities. Han Woo-yeol also added his own color to enrich the Wan-seop character.
Having shown genre versatility in works including The Roundup's one-eyed captain, Netflix's D.P., and Hell, Han Woo-yeol once again proved his exceptional acting prowess through HOPE. With his perfect absorption into each role, he demonstrated his qualities as a scene-stealer on screen.
Crossing between stage and screen and showing a broad spectrum, Han Woo-yeol is currently meeting audiences as Mr. Gu in the musical Laundry, continuing his deep performances on stage.
