(continuing from interview ②) Bloody Game X's Lee Tae-gyun expressed a desire to face Jang Dong-min in a battle of wits.
On the afternoon of the 19th at Post Tower in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, a joint interview was held with Lee Jin-hyung and Lee Tae-gyun for the Wavve survival variety show Bloody Game X.
As the winner of Bloody Game season 1 who returned this season to lead Team P1, when asked if he regretted being eliminated early, he reflected, "Of course I can't help but feel some regret," while also saying, "In fact, in a way there are many unexpected situations in survival games. If someone were to block out all those variables and win, that would be amazing. But because those variables exist, I think survival games are actually more fun. If someone won every time, wouldn't viewers be bored? Because this kind of regret and aftertaste remain, they might want to watch more, so I think positively about it."
When asked whether he felt pressure about returning since he was a previous season winner, Lee Tae-gyun said, "In a way I think I was able to return because I won. Both of us were ordinary people, and if we hadn't had the impact of winning, I question whether we would have been invited to appear on the show. Because we had good results, I think we were able to return. Of course there can be pressure, but more than that, the reason we participated was because we love these survival games so much. Because of that, returning carried more expectation than pressure. I also definitely had confidence that I could do better."
While Bloody Game X features season 1 winner Lee Tae-gyun and season 2 winner Lee Jin-hyung, season 3 winner Jang Dong-min did not appear. Jang Dong-min is busy preparing to launch a new Netflix survival show tentatively titled Jang Dong-min Game as a planner alongside PD Hyun Jung-wan, who directed the Bloody Game series.
Asked whether Jang Dong-min's absence was regrettable, Lee Tae-gyun joked, "Did he not come because he's scared we'll appear?.." drawing laughter. He joked, "If he was confident he would win, he would have come," and added, "It was very disappointing. After all, didn't they contact him to appear? I thought they would call all the winners. I enjoy playing games with people who are good at games in environments I don't normally experience. And when it comes to Jang Dong-min, he's actually the GOAT (greatest of all time) in the survival world, isn't he? He's the best, so I definitely wanted to try once. I had expectations when I came out this time, so it was very disappointing that he wasn't there," he confessed.
When asked who he considered the strongest contender for the title at the time of the appearance, he said, "Actually I still rate Hong Jin-ho highly. He didn't appear on the broadcast, but I once filmed a survival show with Jin-ho hyung. So I knew at least that he hasn't rusted. There are certainly public opinions that Jin-ho hyung's game skills have declined since the years he won, but I don't think so. On the contrary, his experience has increased, and I think his game skill level is still high. So I think Jin-ho hyung is the strongest opponent."
Besides the Bloody Game series, Lee Tae-gyun, who said, "As a survival maniac, the biggest reason I appear when offers for these survival programs come is because they're fun. I'll go on a survival show whenever and wherever they call," when asked whether there was an opponent he wanted to face properly in a survival game if another opportunity arose, said, "I've long wanted to face Jang Dong-min, of course. The reason is that I respect Jang Dong-min so much. He's so good, and the thrill of beating him would be the greatest. Also, Oh Hyun-min, Jin-hyung and I and Oh Hyung-min are all the same age. I want to see who is the best among those born in 1995," he said, showing enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, Bloody Game X is an extreme survival game featuring the physically strongest competitors, and it is released every Friday at 11 a.m. on Wavve.
