Actor Lee Jae-yong revealed that he previously battled depression.
On the 20th, a video titled '[Exclusive] "Mi from The Rustic Period and Lee Jae-yong, why they endured depression for eight years… "Acting saved me"' was posted on the YouTube channel 'What are you doing these days'.
That day actor Jo Sang-gu asked Lee Jae-yong, "I heard you took antidepressants for seven or eight years or more," Lee Jae-yong recalled, "It was quite serious," and "I think the first time I was diagnosed was in my early to mid-30s."
He said, "Because of my livelihood I visited a psychiatric hospital to do psychodrama with the students I was teaching," and "Instead of doing psychodrama, I said I wanted to study the hospital patients. It was curiosity as an actor."
However, Lee Jae-yong recalled that after visiting closed wards and other places he saw a 'living hell' and said, "Those people who seemed to have even their last human dignity stripped away were confined and their movements did not feel like those of living people."
Lee Jae-yong confessed, "Their suffering came at me, and I cannot tell everything, but I went to dinners with the doctors who did psychodrama and caused scenes."
He added, "At that time the person who diagnosed me said, 'Because your profession requires you to show your face to the public, I will introduce you to a hospital; while hospitalized stop drinking entirely, take only medicine for ten days and rest.'"
However, he said he was producing performances and had to feed his family, so he thinks it happened while working, and said, "These days I meditate and have quit drinking. At that time I lived half like a madman. I was often in great danger and went through many moments of crisis."
