Actor Jung Haein is energetically promoting the Netflix series Our Sticky Love even as variables have arisen in promotional schedules due to Ha-young's great-grandfather's pro-Japanese controversy.
Jung Haein on the 20th posted several photos on his social media with the caption "Our Sticky Love".
In the released photos, Jung Haein poses on set wearing an all-black suit. Blood is smeared on the back of his hand as he looks at the camera with a bright smile, drawing attention.
He especially draws attention by boasting a shining visual even on a dark night set, completing a warm suit fit.
Jung Haein shared a romantic chemistry with Ha-young in Our Sticky Love, but when Ha-young was embroiled in a controversy over her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions, unexpected variables emerged for promoting the work. An interview that had been scheduled was suddenly canceled the day before, putting a brake on promotional schedules. In response, Jung Haein is continuing to promote the work through his social media, attracting attention.
Earlier, Ha-young appeared on KBS 2TV Problem Child in House and introduced her great-grandfather as a person who, after finishing studies in Japan, opened the first Western-style hospital in Hanyang and even treated Emperor Gojong.
But later, controversy erupted when it became known that the great-grandfather Ha-young mentioned was Ahn Sang-ho, who had treated Gojong together with a Japanese doctor when Gojong collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage in 1919. Ahn Sang-ho is known to have entered Tokyo Jiai Hospital Medical School in Japan in 1898 and to have passed the medical licensing exam in 1902.
Moreover, records were confirmed through the 1918 Maeil Shinbo, the organ of the Japanese general government, showing he married a Japanese woman and followed Japanese-style living, raising suspicions of pro-Japanese behavior. Because Ha-young had introduced her great-grandfather on broadcast as a family pride, the controversy spread further.
As the controversy grew, Ha-young on the 12th posted a handwritten apology on her social media and directly stated her position. Ha-young said she bows her head in apology for causing great disappointment and hurt due to matters related to her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho and said she had recently reflected on her family's history with a heavy heart upon learning of her great-grandfather's past actions.
She went on to say she had not known about her great-grandfather's past and explained that she had only known fragmented stories passed down through her family and, in ignorance, had mentioned her great-grandfather like a family pride on many occasions.
She added that while directly searching related materials she learned of her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions and bowed her head, saying she reflects on having treated family history lightly without properly understanding the painful history of the Japanese colonial period. Ha-young said that the fact she did not know cannot be a reason to ignore or take history lightly and repeatedly apologized, saying she accepts the wrongdoing heavily and sincerely apologizes as a descendant. She also expressed remorse, saying she is especially sorry for causing controversy with shortcomings ahead of Liberation Day.
