Jisuyeon successfully completed the first performance of the musical 'Caffeine,' showcasing a more grown presence as an actor.
Jisuyeon took the stage for the first time as the female lead Sejin in the musical 'Caffeine,' which opened on the 20th at The Good Theater in Daehangno, Seoul, and met with the audience. Based on stable vocal ability and delicate emotional acting, she naturally conveyed Sejin's awkward charm in the face of love and made an impression from the first performance.
The musical 'Caffeine' is a representative romantic comedy of Daehangno that has been consistently loved since its premiere in early 2008. It depicts the sweet-bitter love story that unfolds as barista Sejin, who brews coffee, and sommelier Jimin, who handles wine, share one cafe by using it in turns for day and night.
In the play, Jisuyeon portrayed Sejin, a barista who is perfect at work but endlessly clumsy in love. She completed a three-dimensional character by portraying a wide range from a confident and lovable appearance to honest emotions that waver when facing a relationship.
In particular, she delicately expressed realistic romantic feelings and subtle psychological changes while leading the flow of the play steadily with solid vocal power. She showed natural chemistry with the co-actors, enhancing the work's immersion by bringing out the cheerful atmosphere unique to romantic comedies.
This work is also significant as a comeback about two years after the musical 'Butch Hannah' in 2024. Jisuyeon demonstrated the acting skills she has steadily accumulated by presenting deeper character expression and stable stage rhythm.
After successfully completing the first performance, Jisuyeon said through her agency, "I am happy to be able to present a good work with good fellow actors and staff. Thanks to the warm response of the audience, I was able to enjoy the performance."
She added, "In the remaining performances, I want to closely breathe with the audience while faithfully conveying Sejin's honest emotions and lovable appearance. I hope people feel a special thrill through a love story that shares and bears both joy and sorrow."
Singer-songwriter Jisuyeon, a former member of the group Weki Meki, made her musical stage debut in 2022 with the musical 'Bungee Jumping of Their Own.' Since then, she steadily built her filmography by appearing in '1976 Harlan County' and 'The Three Musketeers' in 2023, and 'Crash Landing on You' and 'Butch Hannah' in 2024. Through this 'Caffeine,' she expanded her activities as an actor by adding the romantic comedy genre in her own colors.
Jisuyeon is also continuing activities that move between music and acting while working on albums in parallel with her musical work. After signing an exclusive contract in April with tapes, the label of comprehensive entertainment company Mound Media, she has been showing diverse charms as a musical actor and singer-songwriter, drawing attention to her future activities.
Meanwhile, the musical 'Caffeine,' in which Jisuyeon appears, will be performed at The Good Theater in Daehangno, Seoul, through Oct. 25.
