Actress Jeon Won-ju revealed an unusual investment persistence of holding a single stock for nearly 15 years without selling it.
On the 20th, KBS 1TV's 'Docu Insight - Semiconductor Money, the trajectory of money' highlighted the investment market that changed along with the growth of Korea's semiconductor industry. The broadcast also included the investment story of Jeon Won-ju, known as a representative
The stock Jeon Won-ju chose was SK hynix. It is reported that she bought shares in 2011 at the 20,000-won-per-share level before SK Group's acquisition of Hynix.
What drew attention was what came after the purchase point. Although the stock price repeatedly fluctuated for a long time, Jeon Won-ju said she has not sold the shares she still holds. When the production team asked, "Haven't you sold your SK hynix shares yet?" Jeon Won-ju replied without hesitation, "I'm waiting longer. Until it goes up more."
A simple comparison between the purchase price at the time and the recent stock price estimates a return of about 7,000–9,000%. However, since Jeon Won-ju's exact purchase quantity and investment amount have not been disclosed, the actual amount of realized gains cannot be specified.
More than the possibility of manyfold returns, what Jeon Won-ju emphasized was "time." She said many people around her ask how to make money and noted, "I tell them, 'Climb one step at a time. Don't think about taking the elevator.'" It means that rather than seeking large gains in a short period, one should grow assets with a long breath. Jeon Won-ju has previously disclosed her principle, "I never sell stocks." She also advised not to use money needed immediately for investment and to thoroughly research the companies to invest in first.
Known for her strict frugality and nicknamed the 'entertainment industry's top saver,' Jeon Won-ju is also famous as an investment master who steadily grew her assets through real estate, gold and stocks. This time, long-term investing since 2011 was spotlighted again, attracting interest.
