Recently Shinji faced suspicions of orthognathic surgery. On that day, visiting the dentist, she said, "I have an open bite so I can't bite food off. So I previously lengthened the teeth a bit," and offered an explanation.
Shinji said she had been steadily filing her upper and lower teeth a little, and that as a result her molars became higher, making the shape uncomfortable when closing her mouth. Shinji explained, "If you remove them entirely, the jaw will be pushed back more, so you can't remove them completely. We will lower the molars that had been raised and strip both upper and lower teeth and now make new teeth."
The attending dentist said, "I absolutely do not touch the bone. I only performed prosthetic treatment," and emphasized, "Previously, because of the open bite, the face changed from a cute image to a more mature image. So that could have made the image different. She also lost a lot of weight in the meantime."
When Shinji said it felt awkward to close her mouth, the dentist replied, "Because the muscles have been used for over forty years, and suddenly the jaw joint position changed, the muscles are not accustomed to it, so it feels awkward at first. It usually takes one to two years. Since it hasn't been long for Shinji, of course it will take time to get used to it."
Shinji even revealed the X-ray. The dentist explained, "Her bones are originally very thin. Such a thick white line would not appear if orthognathic surgery had been done. This kind of jawbone line does not look natural and would look like it was clearly cut by someone."
Rather, people who undergo orthognathic surgery or facial contouring surgery tend to have screws embedded or show signs on X-rays at the jaw line.
When the production team empathized, saying, "You must have been very frustrated," the dentist said, "I was surprised to hear talk of orthognathic surgery. Because her face is so small and her jaw line is pretty, such suspicions could have arisen."
Shinji said, "People's image of me is somewhat chubby and cute, but it has been 28 years since I debuted as a singer, time passes, I lost weight, and while undergoing dental treatment the awkward way I close my mouth seems to make people feel uncomfortable."
She added, "I never thought people could misunderstand me, but now (that I had orthognathic surgery) it has become an established fact. It's a side effect of orthognathic surgery. So I thought it would be good to resolve people's curiosity about that, but today it was resolved very simply."
