Actor Ryu Jun-yeol will challenge his first dual role.
On the 20th at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul, director Kim Hong-sun attended the Netflix series 'Mousetrap' production presentation alongside Ryu Jun-yeol, Sul Kyung-gu and Lee Gyu-hyung to talk.
'Mousetrap' is a pursuit thriller about novelist Mun Jae, who had his name, face and life completely stolen by the mysterious being Mousetrap; debt collector No-ja, who tries to recover lost money; and detective Sun-yong as they chase the identity of Mousetrap.
'Mousetrap' is a new work from director Kim Hong-sun, who showed a keen sense of direction in the Netflix series 'Dear Hongrang', 'Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area', and the dramas 'The Guest' and 'Voice', and it features trusted performers Ryu Jun-yeol, Sul Kyung-gu and Lee Gyu-hyung joining to work together.
That day Ryu Jun-yeol introduced Mun Jae as "a writer who hid away, cut off from the world for about three years, and after having everything taken by Mousetrap, is a character trying to reclaim his life."
Challenging a dual role for the first time in his debut, Ryu Jun-yeol confessed, "I really discussed it a lot with the director. I can say the result now is the decision we made after trying everything we could."
Ryu Jun-yeol said, "I said something similar during 'Owl' as well; it was a similar issue of how to persuade. One actor is playing two characters, so when we worried about how to convince the audience, we decided to express it by touching very delicate parts like personality, gaze and the character's appearance."
He continued, "The most prominent part seems to be the voice first approaching the audience. Other than that there are detailed parts, and I think it will be interesting if you examine them closely while watching the work later."
Director Kim Hong-sun said the reason he cast Ryu Jun-yeol was, "The character Je Mun-jae is not common around us, but if you look closely there might be one or two people. The character Mun-jae is neither simply a good person nor a heroic narrative. Because it is a dual-role character, I think I offered the part after seeing the deep performance Ryu Jun-yeol showed."
Director Kim said, "On set he very fiercely put forth ideas and discussed them; I thought he was an actor with many ideas and alternatives. I received a lot of directorial help from him."
Meanwhile, Netflix's 'Mousetrap' will be released on the 28th.
