As posts disparaging Group Red Velvet member Wendy's appearance spread online, her agency said it would take a hard-line response.
Wendy's agency ASND issued an official statement on the 19th, saying it would respond sternly to malicious slander, spreading false information, defamation, and sexual harassment targeting its artist.
The agency said, "We continue to find malicious reviews and disparagement targeting the artist's appearance and body, as well as sexual harassment posts and comments, including sexual objectification."
It added, "In particular, acts that specifically refer to or review the artist's body in sexual terms, mock or disparage appearance and body, or maliciously spread content that differs from the facts are clear defamation that cannot be seen as mere opinion or freedom of expression."
The agency said it plans to continue collecting evidence on the posts and comments already identified, as well as on malicious posts that may be discovered going forward.
Lastly, the agency said it will respond proactively to any act that infringes on the artist's rights and interests, regardless of the severity of the matter, and that it will continue to monitor malicious acts and respond forcefully through necessary legal procedures.
Recently, Wendy appeared noticeably slimmer than in the past, prompting concern from some fans. Wendy previously said she manages her figure with morning fasted running and Pilates, but some raised concerns that the weight control might be excessive. In the process, some internet users posted and commented content reviewing or disparaging Wendy's appearance and thin frame, sparking controversy.
