Actor Hwang Jung-min appealed the court's compulsory mediation decision in a roughly 200 million won damages lawsuit with Person A, who raised allegations about his private life.
On the 18th, according to a media report, Hwang Jung-min expressed his intention to oppose the Seoul Central District Court's compulsory mediation decision issued on the 14th in the roughly 200 million won damages lawsuit with Person A.
Compulsory mediation is a procedure in which the court, before a formal judgment, sets the terms of settlement between the parties ex officio; if a party does not raise an objection within two weeks after receiving the decision document, it has the same effect as a judgment by compromise. However, if either side objects, the compulsory mediation decision loses its effect, and Hwang Jung-min submitted an objection, making agreement practically difficult.
In February, Person A filed a lawsuit seeking about 200 million won in damages against Hwang Jung-min. Person A demanded damages on the grounds that after Hwang Jung-min proposed a soju business, she was not properly compensated for producing design drafts, writing scenarios and other work.
In June, the court issued a decision to refer the case to mediation to urge settlement between the two sides, but earlier Hwang Jung-min said on the 11th that he had no intention of meeting with Person A and would not attend, and he submitted a written opinion on proceeding with the procedure to the mediation committee through his legal representative.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-min and Person A are also pursuing legal action related to stalking allegations in addition to the damages lawsuit. Person A recently claimed on social media that she had a personal relationship with Hwang Jung-min and released messages and recordings exchanged between the two, but Hwang Jung-min refuted this and said he had criminally accused Person A of stalking.
Accordingly, Hwang Jung-min said the court imposed provisional measures such as restraining orders on Person A three times and, finding the stalking allegation to be valid, issued a summary order fining her 3 million won.
At the recent sentencing hearing on Person A's stalking charge, she partially admitted wrongdoing but pleaded, "The idea that I was a stalker who pursued one person unilaterally for two years is an entirely different matter."
