The ex-wife of mixed martial artist Bae Myung-ho reported an update on the legal dispute over unpaid child support and financial burdens such as debts she had settled on his behalf during the marriage. Amid this, Bae Myung-ho rebutted his ex-wife's claims, saying "I have continued to provide financial support."
On the 18th, Bae Myung-ho's ex-wife, Ms. A, posted a lengthy statement on her account, saying "I have judged that it is now time to state my position regarding events related to my personal life."
Ms. A said, "I would like to inform you that legal proceedings have begun regarding the various unresolved issues," and mentioned several problems that occurred during the marriage, saying, "During the marriage I had to manage and bear the consequences of my partner's recurring life problems on numerous occasions. While those problems repeated, I often spent sleepless nights caring for our young child alone. I recommended professional treatment to my partner, but efforts to change did not last, and the same problems recurred. Also, incidents that undermined trust between spouses were repeated throughout the marriage. The various problems my partner created outside the marriage eventually exceeded what could be resolved between the parties, and we had to seek an official judgment and spend a long time doing so," referring to the various issues that occurred during the marriage.
She said that during the hardest period in June 2024, when their 17-month-old child was repeatedly hospitalized with pneumonia, Bae Myung-ho suddenly left the family. Ms. A said, "From the moment he left the house, my partner continued a free lifestyle, enjoying overseas trips, parties and vacations, and he continued to post such activities on social media," adding, "Family members also persuaded him and tried until the end. But despite their persuasion, he ultimately gave no answer. Even while caring for our sick child, I tried several times to find out why and, above all, to keep the family together by going to him in person to persuade him to accompany the child to the hospital. But from that time I directly confirmed facts and circumstances I had not known," and said they ultimately ended their marriage through mutual agreement.
Ms. A said, "We agreed to finish the divorce with the understanding that we would both continue parenting and fulfill our responsibilities as parents, but promises were not kept afterward and responsibility for the child was not properly fulfilled," and added, "I am currently proceeding with legal procedures to seek judicial rulings on the unpaid child support that has continued until now, the failure to fulfill items agreed at the time of divorce, the various financial burdens including my partner's personal debt that I had to resolve on his behalf, the various problems that occurred during married life, and matters that arose during the breakdown of the marriage."
He said, "What I hoped for at the time of the divorce and what we agreed on was that even if the marital relationship ended, we would continue to fulfill our responsibilities as parents to the child. But nothing changed over a period far exceeding a year. My partner promised to resolve various financial issues before and after fights, and I believed him and waited. But after winning matches he posted overseas trips on social media, has avoided contact to this day, and has also avoided payment of child support and fulfilling promised matters," adding, "After a long wait I could no longer postpone this matter, and I ultimately sought a legal judgment," explaining how the dispute reached litigation.
She continued, "The tiny child who was 17 months old has now turned 4. It was not an easy time, but as the child's mother I did not abandon my responsibilities and have come this far. Going through that time also made me stronger than before," and added, "I will no longer endure or remain silent alone. To protect my and my child's life I will do what I must and muster the strength needed. I state that this post was written based on materials and evidence related to ongoing legal proceedings. Please refrain from unverified speculation or one-sided criticism, and above all I earnestly ask you to look upon us kindly so that the ordinary life of my child and I can be preserved."
However, Bae Myung-ho posted a counterstatement directly, saying, "I cannot put every story from the marriage into writing, but we concluded the matter by mutual agreement, and for the sake of our child I have done my best and continued to provide financial support beyond child support to take responsibility for the household that I ultimately failed to maintain, in order to fulfill items mutually agreed upon during the divorce process," explaining that he has continued efforts to fulfill agreed terms after the divorce.
He added, "Currently there are differing interpretations between both sides regarding the legal meaning of the mutual divorce conditions, and we are awaiting a legal judgment on this," saying, "I do not think matters such as the timing of unpaid child support and the circumstances leading to nonpayment should be judged from only one side's perspective. I will respect and follow the court's objective judgment on this matter."
He warned, "I will no longer tolerate unilateral claims or false statements that cause excessive criticism and damage to me and my family without considering these circumstances. Through my legal representatives I will actively respond to defamation and insults," and asked, "Please refrain from speculation or excessive criticism about unverified facts, and wait for the court's final decision on this matter."
Meanwhile, Bae Myung-ho is a Black Combat welterweight mixed martial artist who came to public attention in 2018 by appearing as actor Yoon Si-yoon's friend on 2 Days & 1 Night. He married a non-celebrity, Ms. A, in 2019 and had children, but they later divorced.<
