Cool's Kim Seong-su expressed gratitude to his daughter, who grew up well after he lost his wife.
On the 19th episode of KBS1's Hwang Shin-hye's Let's Live Together, Hwang Shin-hye, Shin Gye-sook and Yang Jeong-a, among the "singles," moved into a remodeled vacant house, and group Cool member Kim Seong-su appeared as part of the moving support team.
Kim Seong-su, who joined as part of the moving support team, looked at a picture hanging on the wall and said, "My daughter is studying art too. She is 21 now and a university student." Earlier, Kim Seong-su had said his daughter won early admission to the art departments of Kyonggi University and Dankook University.
Later, while preparing dinner, Kim Seong-su received a phone call from his daughter. Kim Seong-su joked naturally, "I'm going to learn mapo tofu from chef Shin Gye-sook, but if dad makes it, it's papa tofu," prompting laughter. Moved by the affectionate scene between Kim Seong-su and his daughter, Hwang Shin-hye asked what kind of father he was, and the daughter replied, "My father is a wonderful dad," which touched hearts.
Affectionate father Kim Seong-su said, "Looking back on my life, achievements as a singer are important, but the greatest accomplishment of my life is that my daughter grew up so well," and added, "I am so grateful to my daughter." Hwang Shin-hye praised him, saying, "This is thanks to you as a father. When parents do well, children inevitably grow up well."
Also a "single dad," Kim Seong-su said, "We talked a lot, but I also trusted her unconditionally. I became a generous tree for my daughter," explaining his efforts to fill the void left by the mother. In particular, Kim Seong-su said, "I lost my parents in my early 20s, so I couldn't get help. The hardest thing when I went to local events was that my child had to be alone. There was help because a classmate lived in the APT. So I'm grateful."
There were also hardships as a single dad. Kim Seong-su said, "The emotional connection is different," and added, "When my daughter hit puberty she went through a lot of difficulties," which moved listeners. Kim Seong-su laughed, saying, "There are many things I couldn't do," but added, "I'm grateful my daughter grew up well, even staking my life on it. Now that she's grown, she nags me."
Now that his daughter lives independently, Kim Seong-su said, "There are pros and cons. Living alone gives you freedom, but there is an emptiness when she's not around. Still, it's admirable that my daughter worked part-time to pay her tuition, and this time she received a scholarship. I think, is she really my daughter?" he said proudly.
Regarding his goals going forward, Kim Seong-su said, "At heart I'm a singer, so I want to release an album and continue working steadily."
