The girl group VV is enduring a long hiatus due to a settlement lawsuit with their agency Big Planet Made Entertainment, and member Umji marked her birthday by expressing her feelings in a handwritten letter.
Umji released a lengthy handwritten letter on her social media on the 18th. She took the step to communicate directly with fans because her birthday falls on Aug. 19.
First, Umji said, "This birthday brings up especially many lovely words of celebration that used to make every birthday feel dozens of times fuller and more special. This year I won't be able to receive all those words personally as much, but I could deeply feel Nabies' hearts cheering warmly and wanting to see me, so I wanted to convey my feelings even in this way," and she greeted fans, "Thank you so, so much for celebrating me, and I will never forget those still passionate, cherished feelings. Even if my current response is somewhat lacking, please wait a little so I can someday repay you doubly."
Umji continued about the long hiatus, "I didn't think the break would actually become this long, so I thought we might see each other soon if we each just recharged a bit, but I feel sorry for giving you a longer wait than expected. You must be very bored and lonely at times, but I sincerely hope you're filling up little moments of happiness and doing well."
She added candidly, "I've been enjoying a long leisure time I'd never had before, and sometimes I was happy, sometimes it was hard, I made resolutions, I got tired, I cheered up — I've been spending my time quite dynamically," and "I thought day by day I might be calm like gentle waves, but that wasn't entirely the case. Instead, my heart and thoughts seemed busier in inverse proportion. To steer those thoughts in a better direction, I sometimes went far away for a while and then came back."
Umji said, "Anyway, this was a time of undergoing various emotional changes, but one thing is certain: for both me and the members, the current hunger hasn't drained our remaining strength into exhaustion; rather, it has acted as thirst for more wonderful and better times. So I dare to hold the expectation that when we restart, we might be able to show somewhat different new aspects than before."
Finally Umji promised fans a reunion, saying, "It may take more time, but the present quietness is bound to be eclipsed someday by overwhelming content, so let's endure just a bit longer! I will be living a bit more energetically for the time being as I look forward to that day."
VV, of which Umji is a member, earlier in April notified Big Planet Made Entertainment of the termination of their exclusive contract, citing the agency's breach of obligation to pay settlement money under the exclusive contract, breach of management support obligations and the consequent deterioration of the relationship of trust.
