The social media (SNS) account that first posted a video that appeared to show parts of Blackpink Jennie's body exposed has been suspended. Jennie's side warned of legal action over the malicious editing and distribution of photos and videos.
On the 19th, the account of SNS user A, known to have uploaded the video, was suspended. Around the 15th, A posted a video that appeared to show parts of Jennie's body exposed. Within half a day of being made public, the video surpassed 12.5 million views and spread quickly.
Online, debate arose over whether the video was an actual recording or was manipulated and processed using artificial intelligence (AI). As it became known that there were other posts on A's account suspected of AI manipulation, the possibility of compositing was also raised.
While the authenticity controversy continued, the video was re-shared through SNS and online communities, and as sexually harassing and insulting comments targeting Jennie followed, concerns grew over secondary harm.
Jennie's agency OA Entertainment issued an official statement on the 18th, saying, "Recently, centered on online communities and SNS, baseless slander and spreading false information about Jennie, and acts of maliciously editing and processing photos and videos have been continuously confirmed."
The agency said it is monitoring related posts and accounts and collecting evidence through legal representatives, adding, "We are pursuing civil and criminal legal action over cases of serious rights violations."
In particular, it said it would take legal action against acts that maliciously edit or reprocess Jennie's physical features, repeatedly post photos or videos, or distribute them in connection with insulting expressions or false information. It added, "There will be no settlements or leniency of any kind."
