The final story of 'Tazza,' which left behind countless memorable lines and scenes and accompanied audiences for 20 years, is finally revealed.
'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' (director Choi Guk-hee, distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Cinedus) has confirmed its release on Wednesday, Sept. 23, arriving the day before the start of the Chuseok holiday, as if to prove the proposition "Tazza for Chuseok."
The final installment of the Tazza series, 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub,' is a crime film about Jang Tae-young (Byun Yo-Han), who thought he had the world through an online Big Bet business, and his close friend with the same name, Park Tae-young (Roh Jae Won), who took everything from him, meeting again on a global gambling stage to fight a revenge showdown.
'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' confirmed its Sept. 23 release and threw its hat into the Chuseok box office. The Tazza series, a film adaptation of Huh Young-man's original manhwa, presents its final installment on the 20th anniversary. After the film adaptation was confirmed, Huh Young-man told director Choi Guk-hee at their meeting that he considered 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' his favorite story among his series.
Director Choi Guk-hee recalled, "I remember he asked, 'Why hasn't such a great manhwa been produced?'" and added, "That made me want to make it even better." He said the meeting with the author turned the burden of taking on the final installment into a sense of responsibility.
'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' delves deeply into the relationship between two friends, unlike the previous three films. The subtitle "The Song of Beelzebub" is taken directly from the original manhwa. Among the works presented over the past 52 years by popular manhwa artist Huh Young-man, the "The Song of Beelzebub" chapter has the most solid fan base.
Medieval European clergymen regarded cards as tools of the devil, believing hearts symbolized desire, diamonds greed and clubs violence. The 13 spades representing death each bore the name of a demon: spade A was Lucifer, the fallen angel who fell into hell, and spade 2 was Beelzebub, the former ruler of hell. Of the two demons who wagered everything in a gamble, the defeated Beelzebub was reduced to a dung fly. Roh Jae Won explained the meaning of the title, saying, "The film proceeds with Park Tae-young telling the story that the two demons gambled everything and the defeated Beelzebub turned into a dung fly."
The finale of the Tazza series, which has met the nation every Chuseok for the past 20 years, 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub,' opens on Sept. 23.
Meanwhile, 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' stars Byun Yo-Han and Roh Jae Won, and also features Japanese actor Ayaka Miyoshi, Jo Woo-jin, Yoon Kyung-ho, Tsuyoshi Ihara, Hong Dao, Kim Min-ho, Lim Se-mi, Moon ji-hoon (Swings) and others.
