Businessman Hwang Hyun-min, formerly of the group Jam, again revived the club brawl between actor Bae Jung-nam and Marco that happened 17 years ago, repeatedly insisting it was an "accurate fact."
On the 18th, Hwang posted an additional entry on his social media saying, "The reason I mentioned the events from 17 years ago again was not simply to reexamine a past incident. Because I felt it was inappropriate that someone would take out a Taegeukgi and post it on social media on Liberation Day and act as if they were an awake citizen while saying nothing about election fraud, re-elections and infringements on suffrage," he continued his salvo aimed at Bae Jung-nam.
He emphasized, "I posted the message to warn him to stop pretending to be a patriot and quietly live the way he usually does," adding, "The post I made two days ago is an accurate fact and not a single thing in it is false."
Earlier, Hwang claimed he was once Marco's agency head and said, "When Marco was doing well appearing as a husband with Son Dam-bi on We Got Married, he beat up Bae Jung-nam in a club, and I paid 20 million won out of my own pocket as a settlement. The guy (Bae Jung-nam) on the night he was hit brought Busan gangsters asking to kill Marco in the early morning... Marco and I went out together and dealt with them," he asserted.
The incident was a rumor that surfaced in 2009, when allegations spread that Marco and Bae Jung-nam had fought in a club, drawing attention. In response, Bae Jung-nam directly clarified the rumor about eight years later on MBC's Radio Star. He explained, "One day in 2009 I went to a club and I heard Marco hyung was on another floor. I went up just to say hello, and Marco hyung told me to sit for a moment, so I sat down. One of the people with him looked at me with a displeased expression. It seemed to be one of Marco hyung's group, but maybe a Korean-American friend Marco didn't really know. He suddenly struck me and ran away, then later came back and apologized."
He continued, "Five months later a ridiculous video that had nothing to do with me was circulating as if it were mine. I didn't clarify because I was afraid my explanation would harm hyung," saying he had never assaulted anyone and that the video used in the rumor was unrelated to him. Later, Marco also appeared on MBC Every1's Video Star and explained, "I hadn't been drinking much that night. I hadn't been at the club long either. I was talking with others when the incident happened," and he resolved the misunderstanding by calling Bae Jung-nam on the spot.
Meanwhile, 17 years after the rumor arose, Hwang Hyun-min brought it up again. He further drew attention by claiming that Bae Jung-nam even used gangsters to retaliate against Marco. Later, through an additional post Hwang said his claim meant that "not a single thing is false."
He stressed, "If I had wanted to make the matter bigger out of simple revenge, I would have written in detail about that vivid day. Besides my acquaintances who were at the scene that day, there were so many witnesses that I could not lie. That day Marco and I did not have a physical clash with the gangsters, and I still remember the names of two of the four gangsters Bae Jung-nam called," he emphasized. However, this is a one-sided claim from Hwang Hyun-min's side, and the facts have not yet been verified.
