Actor Ko Jun Hyung left a strong presence through the final episode of Dream To You with a range of charms from spot-on dialect to a heart-wrenching crying performance.
In episode 11 of the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama Dream To You (directed by Yoo Seon-dong, written by Jung Eun-bi), which aired on the 17th, Ko Jun Hyung raised the drama's immersion by broadly depicting everything from the quirky sight of fleeing in fear before cleaning fish to the deep inner feelings of sincerely worrying about Shim Sin (played by Im Ki-hong)'s health.
That day, Joo Young-jae (played by Ko Jun Hyung) ran into an unexpected obstacle while learning to clean fish from Shim Sin. Seeing the wriggling fish, he quickly moved away and, saying "I'm scared," choked up in a way that drew laughter. Still, he playfully replied, "The boss is Shim Sim Fisheries' taste, and I'm Shim Sim Fisheries' sight. It's tasty and pleasing to the eye, right?" showcasing his distinctive cheerfulness. Ko Jun Hyung's warm and natural dialect further brought Joo Young-jae's friendly charm to life.
But behind the playful demeanor sat deep worry for Shim Sin. Joo Young-jae carefully checked Shim Sin's health, asking what medicine Shim Sin was taking, and ultimately told Shim Yu-geon (played by Baek Seong-cheol) that Shim Sin was battling pancreatic cancer. The sight of Joo Young-jae unable to hold back his emotions and breaking into tears contrasted with his usually playful and cheerful manner, creating a moving effect.
Especially, Ko Jun Hyung delicately portrayed Joo Young-jae losing control after suppressing his emotions, fully conveying the character's sincerity. Though he had been the source of laughs, he convincingly showed through his crying performance that the character has a warm heart who worries for and cherishes those around him, leaving a strong impression on viewers.
Meanwhile, when Joo Young-jae discovered Oh Ha-na (played by Lee Yuleum) at the village hall, he ran over in delight. He offered to carry her luggage for her and formally introduced himself as Joo I-jae (played by Lee Hye-ri)'s one and only younger brother, leading the mood cheerfully.
In each scene, Ko Jun Hyung naturally preserved Joo Young-jae's unique quirkiness and slyness, and in moments when the character's sincerity emerged, he raised the drama's emotional temperature with delicate emotional acting. With a spot-on dialect and solid character portrayal, he injected vitality into the work and made his presence unmistakable to the end.
