A trial will be held for former managers who threatened broadcaster Park Na-rae, saying they would expose false information and demanded a large sum of money.
According to legal sources, Director General Kim Su-gyeong of the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 4 will hold the first court hearing for A and B, who are charged with violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Violence, etc. (joint extortion), at 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 15.
They are accused of pressuring Park Na-rae's side saying they would expose company-related suspicions and then demanding an amount equal to 10% of the company's 2024 revenue in exchange for stopping. However, the two failed to actually receive the money, so the crime remained an attempt.
A is also accused of embezzling about 44 million won of Park Na-rae's company funds. A has also been charged with embezzlement in the course of duty and computer-related fraud.
Earlier, on the 6th the prosecution referred A to trial in custody and B to trial not in custody, respectively.
Meanwhile, separately from the case, the former managers claimed they were subjected to abuse by Park Na-rae, such as being verbally abused or hit by a drinking glass and injured, and filed a complaint accusing Park Na-rae of special injury, false fact-defamation, and violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
After the police investigation, Park Na-rae said she cooperated faithfully with the investigation and answered truthfully, and added that it is "a matter that will be revealed through the investigation."
