'SdiPa' producer repeatedly apologized for the 'editing splice controversy' that surfaced before the program's public unveiling.
On the morning of the 10th at the Elliena Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Mnet's new survival show Street World Fighter: Director's War (hereinafter 'SdiPa') held its production presentation. Attending the press conference were PD Choi Jeong-nam and choreographers Nine, Renan, Bada, Back Kooyoung, Babyju, Shimizu, In-gyu, Jeong Min-jun, Casper and Hash.
Street World Fighter: Director's War is a new extension of Mnet's dance series that started with Street Woman Fighter and sparked a 'dance syndrome' in Korea. While the previous series highlighted the competition of world-class
That day PD Choi Jeong-nam was asked whether a voting system that would not be biased toward one side had been put in place since veteran choreographers familiar to the public and young directors would be competing together, and he explained, "We discussed this internally a lot because there are choreographers whose faces are well known and choreographers showing themselves for the first time, so for this program we initially planned to conduct the voting anonymously in the first round. If the past voting method judged which crew did better or excelled, this time we are taking a voting approach that evaluates whether this work is outstanding as a piece of work."
However, 'SdiPa' edited the teaser to make it appear as if choreographer Keira Harper was participating, but Keira Harper herself explained, "I am not appearing on this program and I never said such things," which sparked controversy. Afterwards the producers apologized and made the video private, but credibility issues rose to the surface given it is a survival program.
In response, PD Choi Jeong-nam apologized again, saying, "I take the earlier incident very seriously. We will carefully review the details during the program's production and work attentively to ensure such a thing does not happen."
Meanwhile, Street World Fighter: Director's War will air its first episode today (18th) at 10 p.m.
