Former Sechs Kies member Ko Ji-yong and family medicine specialist Heo Yang-im honestly confessed their breakup two years after their divorce, drawing attention to their current lives.
Ko Ji-yong and Heo Yang-im married in 2013. The following year they had a son, Seung-jae, and drew attention by appearing on representative parenting variety show KBS2 "The Return of SUPERMAN", and Ko Ji-yong gained popularity by making a surprise appearance as Sechs Kies in MBC's "Toto-ga" series of "Infinite Challenge".
But Ko Ji-yong did not return to broadcasting and pursued a path as a businessman. After leaving "The Return of SUPERMAN" and sharing updates via social media, Ko Ji-yong suddenly confessed his divorce on the 29th of last month. He divorced in 2024 after 11 years of marriage, and revealed it to the public about two years later.
The reason Ko Ji-yong and Heo Yang-im confessed their divorce after two years was their son Seung-jae. Ko Ji-yong said, "I wanted to protect Seung-jae so he could fully accept the situation and grow up stably. The divorce was a decision made to respect each other's paths and to fulfill our responsibilities as adults. Seung-jae understands the new relationship between his mother and father, and he is doing well and stable now."
Because it was a divorce revealed after two years, Ko Ji-yong strongly warned against rumors and also directly dismissed speculation about his health. Having recently suffered from rumors about his health due to a very thin appearance, Ko Ji-yong said, "Many people worried because of rumors about my health, but due to my negligence I experienced a temporary liver function abnormality; I am currently recovering and improving a lot. I wanted to thank everyone who sincerely worried about me and also say that I am doing my best to manage my health."
Ko Ji-yong, who felt relieved after honestly confessing the divorce he had kept to himself for two years and dismissing health rumors, can also be seen recently on social media. He drew attention by revealing weekend gatherings with first-generation idol colleagues such as Click-B's Kim Sang Hyuk, appearing with a slightly fuller face.
While Ko Ji-yong regained his health, his ex-wife Heo Yang-im, who obtained custody of their son Seung-jae, announced a new start. A week after the divorce became known, on the 7th, Heo Yang-im said, "Although I appeared on many broadcasts, they were mostly about medical topics, and I hardly ever talked about myself," adding, "If I were to start my own channel now, it would be for communicating with patients, but I also think I should leave something about my thoughts and the various sides of who I am."
Heo Yang-im announced a new start through a YouTube channel. She is also sharing news of Seung-jae via social media. Recently, while sharing news that Seung-jae left for a ski camp in New Zealand, she said, "My heart was touched by the words thanking me for sending him to ski camp. Don't get hurt, eat well, sleep well, and come back. Mom will keep our places here well."
Seung-jae, who learned about his parents' divorce, is also spending his days bravely. In a letter to his mother, Seung-jae wrote, "To mom, mom, I'm doing well in New Zealand. I'm training hard and listening to the coach, so don't worry. Mom, eat well by yourself and don't overdo hospital work. Thank you for sending me to the ski camp. Next time, please come with me, just the two of us."
