Actor Song Seung-hwan confessed to bodily changes caused by deteriorating eyesight.
Recently, a video titled 'Singer Kim Jong-jin episode 3 (Memories of the winter night of 1982 when he first met Tae-gwan)' was released on Song Seung-hwan's YouTube channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life'.
The video featured Kim Jong-jin, guitarist and vocalist of Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, who appeared and talked about meeting Han Sang-won, his musical mentor and colleague in his youth, the behind-the-scenes of joining the navy publicity unit after developing a hearing impairment, and the episode of his first meeting with the late Jeon Tae-gwan, whom he met like fate on Christmas Eve in 1982.
Kim Jong-jin revealed that he lost hearing in his left ear after an accident when he was about 3 to 4 years old, when imitating Golden Bat and robot Taekwon V he climbed onto a rice container and jumped off while holding ear picks in both ears. After his eardrum was pierced and he was taken to the hospital, he lost hearing in his left ear, and he said, "I can hardly hear speech or phone audio, but strangely I can feel music's very low and very high tones."
As a result, although he could have received a military exemption or been classified as a defense soldier, Kim Jong-jin wanted to continue music during service, so he passed the physical examination with his guitar skills and help from those around him and enlisted in the navy publicity unit.
Song Seung-hwan said, "Everyone said that if your eyes get worse your ears will become more sensitive, but perhaps because I'm getting older, as my vision declined my hearing started to go too." In response, Kim Jong-jin joked, "I thought my nose would be more developed so I sprayed on a lot of cologne before coming."
Immediately after serving as artistic director for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, Song Seung-hwan was diagnosed as legally blind at level 4.
