My Little Old Boy actor Kim Seung-soo recounted the excruciating pain of shingles that covered his entire face and the dizzying threat of losing his sight.
On the 16th episode aired on SBS 'My Little Old Boy', Kim Hyung-mook was shown stepping in personally to care for Kim Seung-soo, who had been negligent about his usual health management.
Kim Hyung-mook asked Kim Seung-soo, "Before your drama started, didn't you get shingles and such?" In response, Kim Seung-soo recalled the horrific memory at the time, saying, "I thought I was going to die from shingles."
When Kim Hyung-mook mentioned, "You had shingles on your face," Kim Seung-soo added, "All blisters," saying shingles blisters covered his face completely. He continued, "You know the feeling of a fork? It feels like someone is stabbing and scratching your face with a fork. Even if I took painkillers, I couldn't sleep because of the pain," expressing pain beyond imagination.
Kim Seung-soo particularly explained the danger of shingles, saying, "Depending on where this virus invades, that function becomes paralyzed. If it invades the right brain, left-sided paralysis occurs."
He went on, "When I went to the ophthalmologist, they said it seemed the virus had invaded the conjunctival area. If it goes to the optic nerve, you can completely lose vision in one eye. At the time, I even thought, 'How should I live my life?'" confessing how serious the situation was.
MC Shin Dong-yeob, who was watching this in the studio, testified to the shocking situation at the time, saying, "Makeup covered it somewhat because it was applied thickly, but looking at the photos shown then, it was the worst case of shingles I've ever seen," surprising viewers.
