Actor Park Bo-kyung recalled a past when she struggled with financial hardship.
On the 15th, tvN's You Quiz on the Block uploaded an advance clip to its official channel with the caption "They ran out of rice to the point where Bokyung had to sell her gold necklace. Since that day, why couldn't her husband Jin Sun-kyu eat?"
That day MC Yu Jae-seok asked, "I heard that some days the rice would run out and Bokyung's mother sold the gold necklace she gave her when she was a third-year high school student to buy rice."
In response, Park Bo-kyung said, "People don't cook every day, so I didn't realize it had run out, but one day I opened the rice container and there was no rice. So I said, 'Huh? Honey, there's no rice?' At that point my husband and I reacted differently to the shock and the impact. Because there was no rice, I had the practical thought, 'I have the necklace, so I'll sell it to fill the rice,' but my husband felt the weight of it differently and thought, 'I need to work harder,' so he really went to a lot of auditions," she recounted of the situation at the time.
Yu Jae-seok said, "Rice is our staple more than other ingredients, so it's different from running out of something else. As you said, 'Are we to this point? Could we really be out of rice?' The shock from that must have been great," adding, "Still, since it was a gift from her mother, selling it to buy rice must have been a difficult decision."
Then Park Bo-kyung said, "She got into school, and I thought it had served its purpose," revealing her pragmatic thinking. Yu Jae-seok asked, "So did you refill the rice? What did Jin Sun-kyu say?" Park Bo-kyung replied, "He didn't say anything. He wasn't eating much. Maybe he didn't want the rice to run out again," she said. Yu Jae-seok showed understanding of his guilt, saying, "From Jin Sun-kyu's perspective... that my wife had to sell her necklace to buy rice..."
In particular, a prior preview teased a surprise appearance by Jin Sun-kyu, drawing attention. Park Bo-kyung had temporarily stopped acting after giving birth to devote herself to childrearing. However, at the Blue Dragon Series Awards when Park Bo-kyung won the supporting actress award, Jin Sun-kyu sobbed more than anyone, saying, "From far away, seeing her carrying the baby..." and, overcome with apology, he was unable to finish his sentence and burst into tears, adding to the poignancy.
