Singer Isabella moved the studio to tears as she shared the heartbreaking story of caring for her husband, who has dementia, for six years while battling cancer herself.
Channel A's Star Health Ranking Number One, airing at 8 p.m. on the 19th, will feature singer Isabella as a surprise guest; she has been active as a "trot diva" while keeping the stage despite being diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer and battling metastasis to the lungs.
In a recent recording, MC Jee Seokjin could not hide his delight at Isabella's appearance, saying, "She is someone I saw often on the popular music program 'March of Youth' when I was young." Isabella, who had once been considered a rising star in the music world but disappeared after marriage, confessed the real reason she returned after 30 years, drawing sympathy.
Isabella, who had married an elite architect, said that after her husband's business failed and they lost all their assets, he developed severe depression and dementia. He began showing symptoms such as using shampoo to brush his teeth and forgetting how to use his bus card, and was diagnosed with severe dementia in his 60s. Isabella has been caring for him for six years.
What was even more shocking was that Isabella herself was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer during the caregiving process. She endured surgery and harsh chemotherapy alone, but two years later the cancer tragically metastasized to her lungs. Even while fighting cancer, she had no choice but to perform on stage with a painful body to pay for her dementia-afflicted husband's care and their living expenses, a story that left Jee Seokjin and all the cast members stunned.
The day's released daily life VCR showed heartbreaking scenes in which the husband repeatedly engaged in dangerous, unexpected behavior, such as refusing to take off his shoes indoors and nearly knocking over the TV. Still, Isabella, with reddened eyes, said, "I regret scolding him so much when his business failed. I want to tell him how I truly feel before his memories disappear completely," touching everyone's hearts.
