Director Hong Sang-soo's new film "No Place to Look" won three awards at the Locarno Film Festival.
At the closing ceremony of the 79th Locarno Film Festival held on the 15th, "No Place to Look" (director Hong Sang-soo, production manager KIM MIN, production One Production Company, domestic distributors One Production Company, Contents Panda, international distributor Finecut) director Hong Sang-soo won the best director award and the ecumenical jury prize, and KIM MIN won the best performance award.
The Locarno Film Festival is an international film festival held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Founded in 1946, the festival is one of the oldest in the world and is known for showcasing artistic and experimental auteur films.
"No Place to Look" is Hong Sang-soo's new work and is his fifth official selection at the Locarno Film Festival following "Our Sun-hee" (2013), "Right Now, Wrong Then" (2015), "The Day After" (2018), and "Suyucheon" (2024).
The ecumenical jury prize that Hong Sang-soo won is an independent award separately evaluated and presented by a jury of Swiss Protestant and Catholic churches. It is awarded to works that deeply convey messages about human life and dignity, social values, peace and human rights, and spiritual dimensions.
KIM MIN had previously won the best performance award at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in 2024 for Hong Sang-soo's "Suyucheon," and with this film she received her second best performance award.
Meanwhile, "No Place to Look" is a work that depicts what happens when the protagonist Sang-hee (played by KIM MIN) heads to Jeju Island with her younger brother to find the mother she last saw 10 years earlier, and stars KIM MIN, Kwon Hae-hyo, Shin Seok-ho, and Park Mi-so, who have long collaborated with director Hong Sang-soo, with Choi Myung-gil collaborating with Hong Sang-soo for the first time. Notably, KIM MIN participated not only as the lead actor but also as production manager, and her name appears in the credits.
