Christopher Nolan's new film "The Odyssey 2026" surpassed 4 million admissions in just 12 days after its release, shaking this summer's box office violently.
On the 16th, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, "The Odyssey 2026" drew a cumulative audience of 4,294,209 as of 6:46 a.m.
This remarkable speed beats the records of this year's hits "The King's Warden" (4 million on its 15th day), "Colony" (4 million on its 13th day), and "HOPE" (4 million on its 19th day). Moreover, it easily surpassed Nolan's previous domestic total of 3.23 million for "Oppenheimer," firmly placing Christopher Nolan among the top five highest-grossing directors in Korea.
"The Odyssey 2026," which has held the top spot in overall advance bookings for 14 consecutive days and maintained first place at the overall box office for 11 consecutive days, recorded a seat occupancy rate of 69.9% as of the 15th, sweeping up market share at theaters.
Additionally, with a CGV egg index of 98%, it has shown the unusual phenomenon of its ratings rising in the second week after release. It swept overwhelming scores across the three major theater chains and leading portals, including Lotte Cinema 9.6, Megabox 9.4, and Naver audience rating 9.17. In particular, ticket reservations in the second week of release have increased compared with before opening, showing a strong reverse-run momentum that lights the way for a long reign.
It remains to be seen how far the runaway success of the film "The Odyssey 2026," which has engulfed the box office with unstoppable momentum, will continue.
