Actress Song Hyekyo and Seo Kyoung-duk raise awareness of female independence activist Park Ja-hye.
Song Hyekyo and Seo Kyoung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, produced the multilingual video "The nurse who led the manse movement, Park Ja-hye" and released it domestically and abroad today (15th) to mark the 81st anniversary of Liberation Day.
The video shows that while Park Ja-hye was working as a nurse for the Japanese general government in 1919, she treated the wounded from the March 1 movement, realized the reality of the nation, and formed Ganwoohoe, an organization of nurses for the independence movement. It also highlights that she later went into exile in China, married Shin Chai-ho, returned to help with the Na Seok-ju incident and continued on the path of the independence movement.
The video "The nurse who led the manse movement, Park Ja-hye" was planned by Seo Kyoung-duk and sponsored by Song Hyekyo. The video, narrated in Korean and English, is being shared with domestic and international internet users via YouTube, various social media platforms and Korean communities.
Seo Kyoung-duk said he produced the video to reexamine the lives of lesser-known female independence activists and widely introduce them at home and abroad. He noted plans to produce a series of multilingual videos about more female independence activists and steadily publicize them.
Song Hyekyo has consistently sponsored videos that reexamine the lives of female independence activists such as Jeong Jeong-hwa, Yoon Hee-sun, Kim Maria, Park Cha-jeong, Kim Hyang-hwa and Nam Ja-hyun. She also, over the past 15 years, has donated Korean-language guides and Korean signs to 40 sites worldwide where Korea's independence movement relics remain, together with Seo Kyoung-duk.
